The Bharat NCAP has crash-tested the Mahindra BE 6, which has come away with an impressive 5-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection. BNCAP has also crash tested the larger XEV 9e which, too, has secured a 5-star safety rating for adult and child protection. Notably, the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) scores for both these SUVs are the highest awarded by BNCAP so far.

  1. BE 6 secures 31.97/32 in Adult Occupant Protection
  2. Child Occupant Protection score is 45/49 for BE 6
  3. Was rated ‘OK’ in side pole impact test

Mahindra BE 6 adult occupant protection

The BE 6 has secured 31.97 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP), which is the second-highest AOP score after the XEV 9e (32/32 points). The report noted that the protection offered to the driver’s and the passenger’s head, neck and chest region was good, but it lost points for offering ‘adequate’ protection to the driver’s knee. In the side movable deformable barrier test, the BE 6 secured 16.00 out of 16.00, offering good protection overall.

In the side pole impact test, it was rated OK. The BE 6 also complied with ESC test requirements. No comment, however, was made on the integrity of the body shell or if its capable of withstanding further loadings at higher speeds.

Mahindra BE 6 child occupant protection

In the child occupant protection, the BE 6 secured 45 out of 49 points, matching the XEV 9e, Thar Roxx, Skoda Kylaq and Tata Punch EV and the highest so far. It got full points in the dynamic test (24/24) and CRS installation test (12/12) and scored 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment test. Both the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old child dummies were tested in rearward-facing child seats positioned in the front passenger seat, secured by ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.

Mahindra BE 6 safety features

As standard, the BE 6 comes equipped with six airbags, rear camera and parking sensors, tyre pressure monitor and also a driver drowsiness detection system. It also gets a seatbelt reminder for all seats, a manual airbag cutouff switch and ISOFIX mounts on the rear seats. Higher variants also get Level 2 ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera, and an additional airbag, taking total count up to seven.

Bharat NCAP tested the top-spec Pack Three variant with the 79kWh battery pack, but says the rating applies to the smaller 59kWh variants as well. This report also reveals the full variant lineup of the BE 6 – the 59kWh battery will be standard across Pack One, Two and Three, while the larger 79kWh battery will be limited to just the Pack Three.
