Maharashtra hit-&-run: Biker crushed to death in Nagpur | Nagpur News
Rahul Khairwar, 23, a Madhya Pradesh native and Nagpur labourer, died in a hit-and-run on Katol Road bypass

NAGPUR: In another hit-and-run case in Maharashtra, a 23-year-old riding a two-wheeler was killed on Katol Road bypass in Nagpur late Sunday evening. The deceased, Rahul Khairwar, was driving without a helmet, police said. It is suspected that an unidentified vehicle was speeding and hit Khairwar’s motorcycle with such force that it crushed his skull. The state is rocked by repeated hit-and-run cases prompting CM Eknath Shinde to vow strict action against culprits and ensure justice to victims.
Police have launched an intensive search for the culprit of Khairwar’s death but are unclear about the exact time of the accident. The stretch where it occurred is out of CCTV coverage. Police are trying to find the killer vehicle’s registration number from the cameras installed at private establishments.
Sources said Khairwar, a native of Madhya Pradesh, had shifted to Nagpur to work as a labourer. He stepped out of the house after dinner to buy ‘kharra’ (chewable tobacco) when the accident occurred. Police said Khairwar might have tried to cross the road through an opening in the median. The decorative plants there and nearby bushes might have blocked his vision as well as that of the culprit’s.
“Khairwar’s bike did not skid after being hit, which means the victim likely came under the rear wheels of the killer vehicle. Probably a high chassis vehicle had hit Khairwar’s bike,” a police officer. Several vehicles pass this road, that has heavy traffic movement towards late evening. The bike would have got dragged for some metres if it was hit by a vehicle with a low chassis, police said. An offence against unknown person has been registered.
