Lionel Messi’s eldest son, Thiago Messi, has already started making waves in youth football. As part of the Inter Miami Under-13 team, Thiago struck as many as 11 goals in a recent match against Atalanta United in a minor tournament on February 5. Powered by his enthralling performance, the Herons notched a commanding 12-0 victory in the U-13 MLS Cup fixture. The remaining goal was scored by Diego Luna Jr.
Just like his legendary father, Thiago is a creative playmaker and operates as an attacking midfielder. Besides setting up chances outside the box, the 12-year-old often invades the opposition box to demonstrate his finishing ability.

He opened the scoring for Inter Miami in the 12th minute, followed by strikes in the 27th, 30th, 35th, 44th, 51st, 57th, 67th, 76th, 87th, and 89th minutes.
Born in Rosario, Argentina, Thiago joined the Inter Miami academy in 2023 after Messi parted ways with Paris Saint Germain to shift his base to the USA. Before moving to Miami, Thiago had played for the Barcelona youth team for a few seasons. Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys where his father also began his professional club, signed Thiago only 72 hours after his birth in 2012.
Thiago has already become a key component of the Inter Miami U-13 team. He plays alongside Benjamin Suarez, the son of Messi’s former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez. Thiago has shown much improvement since joining the academy. His ball control, dribbling and skills may remind fans of Messi’s early days at the La Masia Academy.
“We cannot predict whether Thiago Messi will reach the same heights as Leo Messi. However, one thing is certain: he is following in his father’s footsteps and demonstrating the same ambition,” Spanish Mundo Deportivo stated, shedding light on Thiago’s emerging career.
In November last year, Thiago Messi and Benjamin Suarez represented Inter Miami in the Newell’s Cup. Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, however, didn’t attend the tournament, hosted in Rosario.
Thiago’s mother, Antonela Roccuzzo, with his grandparents Jorge and Celia Messi marked their presence at the Jorge B Griffa Sports Complex where the Inter Miami youth team endured a narrow 1-0 defeat to Newell’s Old Boys.
