Following a dismal start to his debut season at Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe appears to have regained his form. The French international has registered 31 goals across all competitions so far in the 2024-25 campaign. He needs three more strikes in the remaining matches to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo‘s tally of 33 goals in his debut season at Real Madrid. Mbappe has already shattered the record of Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario, who scored 30 goals in 2002-03.
Despite joining these legendary footballers in the elite league, Mbappe remains unfazed about his personal achievements as his priority lies in winning titles for Real Madrid. “If I score more goals than Ronaldo and Cristiano it doesn’t mean that I am better, just that my first season is better,” the 26-year-old told the media personnel after his brace against Villarreal in the last LaLiga appearance..
“Scoring goals is important, but it is even more so if we win La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey. The adaptation period for me has ended and now I have to show my quality. I want to play well here, I want to make a mark on the season,” he added.
With at least 12 matches in hand, Mbappe may also break Chilean Ivan Zamorano’s debut season record at Real Madrid. The former Chilean forward scored 37 goals after switching to Real Madrid from Sevilla in 1992. When asked about his chances, Mbappe smilingly said, “They are legends who marked eras with the club.”
While several records remain on the card, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti wants Mbappe to hit the 50-goal mark this season. “Surely if you reach 50, we win La Liga, Champions, or both,” the manager told Mbappe after their 2-1 victory over Villarreal.
Real Madrid conceded an early goal in the away fixture with Juan Foyth putting Villarreal in front. Later in the first half, Mbappe struck twice to bring his team back to the contest. He also had a golden opportunity to complete his third hat-trick for Real Madrid. Arda Guler, however, failed to release the final pass at the right time.
Real Madrid will host Leganes in their next La Liga game on March 30.
