Kesari – Chapter 2 has registered an opening weekend of Rs. 29.62 crores. For a film which is pretty much dependent on word of mouth to help it going on for next few weeks, a start like this was required so that the consolidation game can begin. Had the numbers stayed in that Rs. 25 crores zone then there is as much as it could have done to keep going. On the other hand, something around Rs. 40 crores would have set it up well for an assured entry into the Rs. 100 Crore Club.
For now, all eyes are on how does the hold turn out to be today. Sunday has done the job by extending a double digit run for the film and accumulating Rs. 11.70 crores. Though growth over Saturday is not as high as it was when it came off Friday, the film is now playing to full houses at several premium properties in major urban centres. As a result there is momentum which is on the film’s side and if it can bring on Rs. 5-6 crores on Monday as well then it would be really superb.
Not that it would be easy since Friday collections were Rs. 7.84 crores on a partial holiday and on fair value for a regular day that would have meant around Rs. 5.50 crores. So we are talking about Monday to match Friday, which is really tough. However, with critical acclaim as well as audience word of mouth coming in, one just hopes that this happens indeed as it would set the Akshay Kumar starrer quite well for a long run.
