NEW DELHI: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh on Monday brushed aside Union minister Jyotiraditya Scinda’s recent remarks against him, referring to the latter as just a “child”.
Singh, a former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, highlighted his role in bringing Jyotiraditya’s father, the late Madhavrao Scindia, into the Congress fold.
“It was Arjun Singh and I who introduced Madhavrao Scindia to Sanjay Gandhi and Indira Gandhi,” Singh told reporters. He added that Madhavrao received full respect within the Congress, serving as a Union minister and party general secretary. “I never had any dispute with him because I brought him into the Congress,” Singh stated, before adding, “Jyotiraditya Scindia is a child.”
The verbal exchange between Singh and Scindia escalated following Singh’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month. In the letter, Singh demanded a probe by a sitting high court judge into alleged corruption in the Madhya Pradesh transport department. Singh claimed that during the Congress government led by Kamal Nath, there was pressure to appoint a transport minister considered close to Scindia.
Responding to Singh’s claims, Scindia, who left the Congress to join the BJP in 2020, accused Singh of having a history of targeting his family. “Digvijaya Singh has spent his entire life targeting my father and me. I have never targeted him,” Scindia said, emphasizing his focus on serving people.
The feud traces back to the Kamal Nath government’s collapse in March 2020 after Scindia and several MLAs defected to the BJP. Singh’s recent comments follow Lokayukta raids that uncovered unaccounted wealth linked to a former transport department constable, further fueling the political clash.
