The second edition of the four-day job fair for research scholars from across the country got under way at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras on Thursday.
Being held as part of all India research scholars’ summit, an annual event connecting researchers with the industry, the first day was dedicated to celebrating women empowerment. Nearly 30% of the participants were from the humanities department. The fair, a student-run event, brings together scholars, academicians, industry leaders and innovators from diverse fields across the country.
On the first day, the emphasis was on women’s contribution to STEM fields. Eaton, a multinational intelligent power management company, launched Eaton’s Pratibha awards to recognise nine women students from the institute with a grant of ₹1.25 lakh.
Institute director V. Kamakoti said for India to become Viksit Bharat in 2047 it was important that state-of-the-art research was pursued and technological solutions for diverse set of issues faced by the country were arrived at.
He hoped the summit would pave way for strong research collaborations among the country’s vibrant research community. “Life as a researcher will be memorable and have many takeaways for a lifetime. I believe that doors are now open for a brighter future,” he said.
Sathyanarayana Gummadi, dean (students), invited researchers to visit the institute’s research park and the incubation cell as well. N. Subramanian, executive director of Society for Electronic Transactions and Security (SETS), Shanti Pavan, dean (academic research), also spoke. There would be oral and poster presentations, workshops on technical writing as well at the event.
