Jazeera Airways, the low-cost airline in Kuwait, has announced the release of its inaugural sustainability report titled “Flying Green – a Step towards Sustainable Aviation.”
This makes Jazeera Airways the first airline in Kuwait to issue such a report, highlighting its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts.
The report, available online, follows the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and provides disclosures relevant to shareholders, customers, employees, and the communities in which the airline operates.
“Jazeera employs over 1,100 individuals that help transport over 3.6 million passengers annually, across our network in the Middle East, Central & South Asia, Africa and Europe. This makes us ethically, socially and environmentally accountable as an organisation,” said Rohit Ramachandran, CEO of Jazeera Airways.
He further emphasised Jazeera Airways’ commitment to responsible practices as the airline continues its rapid growth. By publishing an open and transparent report on its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, Jazeera Airways aims to provide a clear roadmap of its current standing and future sustainability strategy, he said.
Jazeera Airways’ sustainability report showcases several notable initiatives and accomplishments, starting with their commitment to fuel efficiency. Jazeera Airways operates aircraft powered by low-carbon fuel, with the ambitious target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Their fleet of 19 aircraft includes A320neos, which significantly reduce CO2 emissions by 50 per cent, engine noise by 50 per cent, and improve fuel efficiency by 18 per cent.
Jazeera Airways has taken the lead as the first Kuwaiti airline and the region’s initial low-cost carrier to adopt the climate compensation initiative CHOOOSE, which empowers passengers to offset their carbon footprint.
The report further mentioned that with the necessary approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Jazeera has also implemented in-house line and light maintenance operations. This decision has resulted in enhanced efficiency, speed, and reliability, benefiting both the airline and its customers, according to the airline. To optimise their operational processes and promote sustainability, Jazeera Airways has also partnered with Navblue, utilising the Mission+ applications, as the report highlights.
Additionally, Jazeera Airways maintains a robust governance structure, adhering to strong values and ethical business practices while effectively managing the company and its stakeholders.
The airline’s dedication to employee satisfaction and engagement has also been recognised with its certification as a Great Place to Work. The airline in a statement, is committed to providing an exceptional work environment and continuously enhancing employee experiences.
In line with their diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, Jazeera has pledged its commitment to the IATA 25by2025 initiative. This commitment aims to increase the representation of women employees to 25 per cent in underrepresented workforce categories, fostering a more inclusive and diverse working environment.
As the journey continues, the airline in the report said that it is committed to taking sustainable steps towards “flying green.”
Jazeera Airways operates commercial and cargo flights from its Jazeera Terminal T5 at Kuwait International Airport and currently serves 66 popular destinations across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, Africa and Europe.
