Jaat has done well in its extended weekend of 4 days. Released on Thursday, the film took a decent opening, saw an expected drop on Friday, grew well on Saturday and then came on its own on Sunday. As a result, the collections have managed to cross the Rs. 40 crores mark and that’s good because it didn’t seem like the case till the day before release. Back then, it had seemed that the film will open around Rs. 7 crores mark and then the extended weekend will manage to cross Rs. 30 crores. However, the collections are much better at Rs. 40.62 crores and that has set the film well.
On Sunday, the film grew further to Rs. 14.05 crores and that’s a relief indeed because it really needed to hit something like that sooner or later. Apart from keeping the momentum going today, it needs to have weekday collections stay over Rs. 5 crores mark right till Thursday as well, so that the first week comfortably goes past the Rs. 60 crores mark. Once that happens, then a lifetime in the range of Rs. 80-90 crores would be a given.
Outside Gadar and Gadar 2, these will also be the best collections that a Sunny Deol film has seen in the last 25 years. Of course, if one accounts for inflation and ticket prices then there are films like Indian, The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy and Apne that have done better by emerging as successes. Also, Yamla Pagla Deewana (Rs. 55.28 crores) was a clear hit. That’s the film which Jaat would be targeting for and for that to happen, it would need to collect Rs. 85 crores in fair value today.
