ITA Airways is the official carrier of the project ‘Imagining the Future. Leonardo da Vinci: In the Mind of an Italian Genius’ the monographic exhibition organised by Confindustria, the Association of Italian Industry, for the opening event of its new headquarter in Washington, the airline shared in a release.

The project developed in collaboration with Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana was presented during an international press conference held recently at the Martin Luther King JR Memorial Library Auditorium in Washington D.C.

According to the airline, in its role of ambassador of Italian excellence in the world, ITA Airways, has supported the initiative – which has the patronage of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington D.C. – by transporting on board its flights from Rome Fiumicino‘s Leonardo da Vinci airport to Washington Dulles, the delegation of Confindustria and a selection of 12 autograph pages belonging to Leonardo’s Codex Atlanticus which are works of unparalleled artistic and historical value and will be on display from today until 20th August at the Martin Luther King JR Memorial Library.

“Our Company feels privileged to be a part of this historic event and I also wish to highlight how our main hub is aptly named after Leonardo Da Vinci, a genius recognized worldwide,” said Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare.

“We are committed, since our birth, to representing and showcasing the best of Italian Excellence by helping to export the style and image of Italy, internationally recognised as the cradle of culture and art. In the light of this natural inclination and mission of ours, we are proud to have been chosen by Confindustria as Official Carrier of the event held to mark the opening of their new office in Washington,” added Limosani.

Israel's Haifa Airport resumes int'l flights after 4-yr hiatus

On June 22, three flights of the Malta-based airline Universal Air carried passengers from the airport to Cyprus, two of them to the city of Larnaca and the other to Paphos. Most international flights to and from Israel take place at the central Ben Gurion Airport, alongside tourist flights to the southern Ramon Airport outside the Red Sea resort city of Eilat.

ITA Airways and the US capital also link up in terms of operations: on 2 June the new, direct Washington – Rome roundtrip flight was launched, which will be initially operated with five weekly flights, and will become daily from August 1 to cover the high season. Washington is a much-desired destination for both leisure and business travellers, said the airline, and will use the new connection as a direct access to Italy, Europe, and the entire Mediterranean region. The new route is already proving very successful, with a high load factor on both the inbound and outbound flight.

Washington is only the first step in ITA Airways’ network expansion, the airline said.

According to ITA, 2023 will be a year of major investments in the intercontinental market, with 3 new destinations from Rome Fiumicino, besides Washington, to San Francisco from July 1 and Rio de Janeiro from October 29.

The new long-haul flights represent a key pillar of the company’s overall strategy, because besides generating revenue they also increase short-haul operations, helping to increase the intercontinental network capacity twofold, it shared.

The United States is ITA Airways’ number one international market and the most strategic, after Italy, as well as the country with the largest number of citizens with Italian origins. Therefore, direct flights from North America to Italy are not only itineraries for leisure and business travel but also a means of reaching out to and connecting with the broader Italian community in the US.

With direct flights to New York, Miami, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington and San Francisco, ITA Airways will operate 122 weekly roundtrip flights between North America and Italy in the height of the summer season.
