NEW DELHI: Head coach Gautam Gambhir arrived in Delhi, while skipper Rohit Sharma landed in Mumbai as members of the Champions Trophy-winning Indian team returned home via different routes from Dubai on Monday.
Rohit reached Mumbai around 8 PM, accompanied by his wife, who had been in Dubai supporting him during the final.
Gambhir touched down in New Delhi around 7 PM, where he was welcomed by officials before being escorted to his destination. The 2025 Champions Trophy victory in Dubai marked Gambhir’s first major title as India’s head coach since taking charge in July last year.
Other players also departed from Dubai, with some, sources revealed, opting for brief vacations abroad before returning to India to begin preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
India made history by becoming the first team to win three Champions Trophy titles, securing their latest triumph with a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
Unlike past celebrations, the team’s return was a low-key affair, with no grand welcome planned. Upon their arrival in India, players will join their respective IPL franchises to gear up for the new season, which kicks off on March 22. Some teams, including Mumbai Indians, have already begun their pre-season preparations.
