CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force)
CRPF is one of India’s premier paramilitary forces that functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was established in 1939 as the Crown Representative’s Police. The primary role of the CRPF is to maintain law and order across the country, participate in counter-terrorism operations and provide relief services during disasters. This force is specially trained to handle terrorism, insurgency and other internal security challenges. The CRPF jawans are deployed in sensitive and disturbed areas across India.
SRPF (State Reserve Police Force)
SRPF, on the other hand, is a state force that is formed by each state based on their specific requirements. SRPF units were established at different times in various states as per requirements. The SRPF’s role is to support the state police in controlling riots, managing crowds and maintaining law and order during emergency situations. The force primarily focuses on local law and order challenges and also addresses state-specific security needs.
Differences Between CRPF and SRPF:
The CRPF operates across India, while the SRPF functions only within its respective state. CRPF is governed by the central government, whereas SRPF is governed by the respective state governments. The CRPF can be deployed anywhere in the country, while SRPF deployment is usually confined to within the state only.
CRPF is a central force aimed at tackling national security and internal security issues, whereas SRPF is a state reserve police force that assists state governments in managing local law and order issues. Both forces play critical roles in tackling the internal threat of the country.
