The extensive ecotourism initiatives are already underway in Himachal Pradesh, with 72 Forest Rest Houses and 22 eco-parks catering to such activities, announced Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Emphasising the need to expedite the master plan which aims to expand eco-tourism activities to 93 proposed sites across the state, CM described ecotourism as a sustainable form of travel that promotes the conservation of natural resources and local culture while providing visitors with unique experiences.
To fully unlock the potential of ecotourism, the development of a comprehensive master plan is crucial, expressed Sukhu. This plan expanding eco-tourism activities across all the proposed sites, will involve the development of necessary infrastructure, ensuring the safety of visitors, preserving natural habitats, and fostering collaboration with local communities, according to Sukhu. The comprehensive approach seeks to maximise the benefits of eco-tourism while preserving the state’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
“By promoting eco-tourism, the state can showcase its rich biodiversity, scenic landscapes and cultural heritage. This can attract tourists who are interested in responsible and sustainable travel, generating revenue and employment opportunities for the local population,” said Sukhu.
During a review meeting of the Forest Department, the CM also expressed his belief in the significant benefits that ecotourism can bring to Himachal Pradesh. He acknowledged the immense potential in this sector and urged the Forest Department to actively harness it for the state’s advantage. By doing so, eco-tourism can create employment opportunities for local youth and contribute to the overall economy.
This announcement was in line with the state government’s vision to position Himachal Pradesh as a prime destination for responsible travellers seeking authentic and sustainable experiences.
Implementing the master plan will help the state capitalise on its ecotourism potential, presenting a compelling offering to tourists and contributing to the growth and well-being of the local communities.
