The Xoom 160 is Hero’s first sporty maxi-scooter and is a direct rival to the Yamaha Aerox.
For the longest time, most scooters on sale in our nation haven’t breached the 125cc displacement ballpark, save for a few expensive maxi-scooters from foreign brands. In 2021, Yamaha brought in the Aerox 155, the first higher capacity, liquid-cooled, maxi performance scooter, which proved to be a sales success. Now, Hero has followed suit with the launch of the Xoom 160 at the Auto Expo 2025. Let’s see how the Hero stacks up against the Yamaha on paper.
Hero Xoom 160 vs Yamaha Aerox 155: engine and output

Hero Xoom 160 vs Yamaha Aerox 155: weight and dimensions
Weight and dimensions | ||
---|---|---|
Hero Xoom 160 | Yamaha Aerox 155 | |
Seat height | 787mm | 790mm |

Fuel capacity | 7 litres | 5.5 litres |
Weight | 142kg | 126kg |
The Xoom 160 and Aerox 155 are similar in dimensions, but the key difference lies in their kerb weight. At 142kg, the Xoom is 16kg heavier than the Aerox, despite only carrying 1.5 litres more fuel. This also results in a better power-to-weight ratio for the Aerox. Having said that, the Xoom’s larger size is going to be a lot more appealing for taller riders than the relatively petite Aerox.
Hero Xoom 160 vs Yamaha Aerox 155: suspension and brakes
Suspension and brakes | ||
---|---|---|
Hero Xoom 160 | Yamaha Aerox 155 | |
Brakes (F/R) | 240mm disc / 130mm drum | 230mm disc / 130mm Drum |

Tyres (F/R) | 120/70-14 / 140/60-14 | 110/80-14 / 140/70-14 |
Both scooters are almost neck-and-neck in this regard as well, although the Xoom has a slightly larger front disc and a wider front tyre, too. It’s worth noting that the Xoom runs on mildly off-road-oriented tyres and the Aerox runs on road-biased rubber. The Aerox’s Achilles Heel has always been its stiff rear suspension, and it remains to be seen whether the Hero can manage to provide a pliant ride on our roads.
Hero Xoom 160 vs Yamaha Aerox 155: price
Price | ||
---|---|---|
Hero Xoom 160 | Yamaha Aerox 155 | |

Priced at Rs 1.49 lakh, the Hero Xoom 160 undercuts the Yamaha Aerox 155 between Rs 1,000 and Rs 4,000, making the choice between the two tough. Both offer similar power and features, but the Aerox is a proven product from a reliable Japanese brand whereas the Xoom 160 is a relative unknown from a company that has never ventured into this space. It remains to be seen whether buyers prefer Hero’s new entrant over the established Yamaha.
