Ghaziabad extended the closure of all schools for classes 1 to 8 from January 11 to 18 due to a severe cold wave. Several cities of UP are currently experiencing low temperatures.

In light of the severe cold wave in Ghaziabad, the district administration has extended the closure of all schools for students of classes 1 to 8. The schools will now remain closed till January 18 to protect students from extreme weather conditions.

“In view of the extreme cold weather prevailing in the district for the past few days, as per the instructions given by the District Magistrate of Ghaziabad, all schools affiliated with the Uttar Pradesh Board, CBSE, ICSE, and other boards for classes 1 to 8 in the Ghaziabad district will remain completely closed for students until January 18, 2025,” said Indra Vikram Singh, DM Ghaziabad, in a notice.

“Therefore, all Principals/Headmasters of schools affiliated with the Uttar Pradesh Board, CBSE, ICSE, and other boards are hereby directed to ensure strict compliance with the aforementioned orders,” it further said.

Earlier, schools were closed in Ghaziabad from January 6 to 11 due to extreme weather conditions. Several cities in Uttar Pradesh, including the state capital, are experiencing lower daytime temperatures due to overcast skies and fog caused by moisture from the Arabian Sea. The weather in the state has been dry, with some areas feeling cold during the day, while a few spots are experiencing extremely cold temperatures.

Several districts and states have announced the closure of schools or extended the winter vacation amid sharp dip in temperature and severe cold waves. The Delhi government declared winter vacation for all government schools from January 1 to 15, 2025.

Lucknow has closed schools until January 11, 2025, and directed the schools to conduct online sessions for classes 9 to 12. Winter vacation is announced in Haryana schools until January 15 and classes are scheduled to be resumed on January 16, 2025.

All the schools in Noida are closed for up to class 8th until further notice. Due to severe cold wave conditions, classes up to the 8th standard in Bihar’s Araria district have been suspended until January 12. However, classes for students in grades 9 to 12 will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Chandigarh has extended the winter break for the school in the Union Territory until January 11, 2025. Government and private schools will remain closed till January 11 and will reopen on January 13, 2025.
