Gerhard Erasmus, the captain of Namibia, has been honored with the ICC Men’s Associate Cricketer of the Year award for 2024. This recognition highlights his exceptional performances in both ODIs and T20Is throughout the year.
Erasmus showcased remarkable consistency, scoring eight half-centuries and playing a crucial role in Namibia’s middle order. His off-break bowling also proved valuable, starting the year with a five-wicket haul against Nepal and taking important wickets in critical situations.

During the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Erasmus delivered standout performances on the big stage. Against Scotland, he scored a rapid 52 off 31 balls, helping Namibia post a competitive total, and took 2/29 with the ball, dismissing two top Scottish batters, despite Namibia’s narrow loss.
In a thrilling super-over victory against Oman, Erasmus played a key role in securing Namibia’s only win in the tournament. Even against a strong Australian side, he showed resilience, top-scoring with 36 off 43 balls in a challenging match where Namibia managed just 72 in 17 overs.

Throughout 2024, Erasmus recorded nearly identical performances in both ODIs and T20Is. In ODIs, he scored 364 runs at an average of 33.09 and took 18 wickets at 22.38 in 12 matches. In T20Is, he amassed 363 runs at an average of 33.00 and claimed 18 wickets at an impressive average of 13.61 in 13 matches.
In total, Erasmus accumulated 727 runs and 36 wickets in 25 matches, solidifying his status as a premier all-rounder. His leadership and individual brilliance have been crucial to Namibia’s successes and competitive performances, making him a deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
