For his second showcase at Paris Couture Week to date, Gaurav Gupta presented cut-out gowns, sparkling separates, and and ethereal bridal looks. With bright hues of emerald green and citrine as well as neutrals of ivory and brown, the collection appealed to a range of aesthetics while keeping the eponymous designer’s architecture-inspired aesthetic front and centre.

Among the celebrity guests to attend the runway show, American musician Cardi B arrived dressed in a glittering lime green gown featuring a padded hood and shrug and proceeded to sit in the front row, the brand announced on Facebook. The musician has worn gowns by Gupta on multiple occasions as the designer’s sculptural creations have become popular with a number of US celebrities. Other guests at the runway show included Chinese actress Fan Bingbing who wore a dramatic black ensemble.

The collection’s title, which can be translated as ‘golden womb’ takes its inspiration from the Hindu Vedas (scriptures) and this nod to tradition was also seen in the Zardozi, Dabka, and Nakshi craft techniques used in the collection. Gupta’s modern, experimental take on traditional craft techniques has earned him a following in India and beyond as he completes two decades in the fashion industry.
