Nissan’s Oliver Rowland won the Mexico City E-Prix after a late-race charge that saw him pass both Porsche drivers – Antonio Felix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein – as well as Andretti’s Jake Dennis. Mahindra Racing also scored another points finish, with Nyck de Vries finishing eighth.

Formula E Mexico: Rowland’s late charge to victory
The Porsche duo of Wehrlein and da Costa stayed in control out at the front for most of the race while Rowland was running P4. However, the Nissan driver had saved up his Attack Mode deployment (bringing extra power and all-wheel drive) till the very end, while his closest rivals had used up theirs.
Rowland’s advantage was nearly wiped out when the Safety Car was brought out. But he still had a minute of Attack Mode left when the race went green once again. And he took full advantage of this boost to overtake Dennis, Wherlein and da Costa – moving from fourth to first in less than a minute.
Both the Porsche drivers had a little more energy in hand over Rowland, but neither found a way past the Nissan driver. “It was a great strategy from the team, but we were initially unlucky with the timing of the Safety Car as I had just activated Attack Mode. However, fortunately, once this period ended, we were left with around a minute of extra power, so I just knew I had to be decisive when making those overtakes,” said Rowland.
Porsche locked out the rest of the podium, with da Costa finishing second and Wehrlein third, followed by Andretti’s Dennis. The DS Penske pair of Jean-Eric Vergne and Max Guenther tried a similar strategy as Rowland’s but were caught out by the Safety Car and had to settle for P5 and P6 finishes, respectively. Maserati’s Stoffel Vandoorne followed them in seventh place.
Formula E Mexico: Mahindra scores points
Mahindra’s Nyck de Vries gained six places to finish P8. However, on the other side of the garage, Edoardo Mortara was forced to pit with a puncture following contact with Sam Bird. Mortara had conserved his energy and Attack Mode uses but couldn’t take full advantage of it due to the late-race Safety Car.
The Indian team leaves Mexico standing fifth in the Teams’ Championship, three points behind Nissan and Jaguar.
2025 Formula E standings
Following his P2 finish in the Mexico E-Prix, da Costa leads the championship by 12 points from Rowland and Jaguar’s Mitch Evans. Porsche holds on to its lead in the Teams’ Championship, though, with 58 points compared to second-placed McLaren’s 27 points.
Formula E will now head to Jeddah for a double-header on February 14 and 15.
