In a candid interview with Bollywood Hungama, actress Anjana Sukhani opened up about a challenging experience during the filming of Salaam E Ishq (2007). Sukhani revealed that she was not informed about a kissing scene with Anil Kapoor until moments before filming, leaving her feeling nervous and unprepared. She also discussed her “on-and-off” relationship with the film’s director, Nikkhil Advani.

“It Came as a Shock”: The Kissing Scene
Sukhani recounted the incident involving the kissing scene with Anil Kapoor. “There is a scene where AK (Anil Kapoor) completely shaves his mustache, and there is a club scene. There is supposed to be a kiss between me and AK. I was not told about the kiss right till the end we were walking on the set to do the scene, I was not told,” she revealed. She expressed her discomfort at the lack of prior communication, emphasizing that such a situation would likely have been handled differently with a “star kid.” “This wouldn’t have happened with a star kid,” she stated.
Sukhani explained that while she understands kissing scenes are sometimes required by the script, the lack of preparation time was the issue. “I understand as an actor that yes, of course if a script demands, you have to be open about it, if the script is demanding it’s fair enough. I am saying at least inform at least. mentally I need to be prepared,” she said. She shared that she felt overwhelmed and nervous, especially as she didn’t have anyone on set to confide in. “I was nervous. I was overwhelmed. I didn’t have anybody around me to even have a chat about it. I was just told this is what you have to do,” she added.
An “On-and-Off” Relationship with Nikkhil Advani
Sukhani also discussed her working relationship with director Nikkhil Advani. “Tricky… I would say… I think I have had like an on-and-off relationship with him, honestly. It was… challenging I would say to work with Nikkhil for me,” she explained. She described him as both “encouraging” and “mean and harsh,” suggesting that the pressure of his previous success, Kal Ho Naa Ho, may have influenced his behavior. “Maybe his expectations from every artist were very high because of course it’s a big film for him. You feel people tend to evaluate you… ki koi backing nahi hai, koi aage piche dekhne wala nahi hai, so you can get away with treating sometimes a person not so nice,” she said.
A Lingering Bitterness
Sukhani clarified that she doesn’t hold resentment, but admits to a lingering “bitterness” about the incident. “I wanted to cry because I wasn’t mentally prepared for it. I am saying if I knew like, maybe an hour or one hour ago, I would have been prepared but it came as a shock. I don’t have any friend on set, PC (Priyanka Chopra) was not there,” she shared. She reiterated her point about the unequal treatment, stating, “I feel that becomes a little unfair treatment in terms of somebody who is not coming from the background, or who doesn’t have nepo kid tag.”
“As an actor that it’s my job to make sure that I am true to the character. I’m just saying that don’t presume already that I would be okay with it and even if I’ll be okay with it. Give me some time to process it and that was not given. I feel that unfair because they wouldn’t do that with a star kid,” she concluded.
