DUSU Elections: Winners of the past
Tracing DUSU’s Legacy: Power Shifts and Political Milestones
Since its inception in 1954, the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections have played a pivotal role in shaping student politics across the university’s 52 affiliated colleges. Over the decades, ABVP has emerged as a dominant force, particularly shining in 2015 when it swept all four key posts.
ABVP’s winning streak extended to subsequent years, clinching three major positions in 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2023. However, the NSUI has consistently challenged ABVP’s supremacy. A significant breakthrough came in 2017, when NSUI secured two posts and solidified its influence by frequently winning the Vice President position in other years.
Voter turnout has mirrored the evolving interest in student politics, ranging from 36.90% in 2016 to an impressive 43.80% in 2018. These fluctuations reflect the dynamic political engagement within the university, highlighting DUSU’s role as a microcosm of larger democratic processes in the country.
