Nagpur: In view of the political turmoil in the state over cabinet expansion and the government’s failure to address issues like inflation, unemployment and farmers suicides, the Maharashtra Congress has demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state immediately.
MPCC president Nana Patole said on Thursday they would request governor Ramesh Bais and President Draupadi Murmu to act in this regard.
“The current situation reminds us of the movie ‘Ali Baba Aur Chalis Chor’, where the thieves fight among themselves for their share of the loot. Inflation is touching the sky while poverty and unemployment is rising. Farmers suicides continue unabated while law-and-order situation has collapsed completely. However, this unconstitutional government is busy looting the people. They do not have time for the public,” Patole said.
Attacking the BJP for its divisive politics, Patole said the voters were feeling cheated, thinking that they had made a mistake of electing 105 BJP MLAs. “They are only busy with hitting someone’s posters with shoes and burning effigies of rivals. For the first time in history, the parties in this Enforcement Directorate (ED) government are fighting for plum portfolios and therefore the cabinet expansion is getting delayed inordinately. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is suppressing opponents by misusing ED and CBI. We request that the President and governor immediately intervene,” he said.
Saying that this was not the Maharashtra envisaged by Shahu, Phule and Ambedkar, the MPCC chief said BJP was defaming the state named by Yashwantrao Chavan.
“Though I am not aware what Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said about deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, I feel that BJP is a ‘kalank (blot)’ on Maharashtra. The people have nothing to do with portfolio allocation, they want results. The farmers still have not received compensation for losses caused due to incessant rains. And our agriculture minister is looting farmers. The Congress and the people of Maharashtra condemn the government,” Patole said.
On meeting Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, Patole said many issues, including the ongoing political situation in the state and preparation for the next year’s Lok Sabha and assembly polls were discussed.
“We have identified 30 seats where we can contest and have made plans accordingly. We would like to contest all elections with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners and are reviewing 48 seats. We also discussed forthcoming elections in five states in December, where we will be winning in Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi would be addressing rallies. It was decided to expose the BJP on all fronts by going to the people,” he said.
