Chhaava row goes viral: City journo gets cop protection after FIR lodged in Kolhapur | Nagpur News

Nagpur: Police security was extended to a portal editor, Prashant Koratkar, after he lodged a police application on receiving threats from across the state, following a controversy on his purported abusive call to historian Indrajeet Sawant that went viral. As per sources, two cops and a home guard were deployed at the residence of the Koratkar family at Besa Chowk on Tuesday. “I approached the local police station and am set to file a complaint with the cyber cell too,” Koratkar told TOI.
Talking to The Times of India, Koratkar claimed that a hacker likely misused an AI tool to recreate his voice before targeting Sawant, whose comment on historical depictions in the movie ‘Chhaava’ triggered dissent in some sections of a community. Following Sawant’s opinion, it’s being claimed that Koratkar cornered the scholar on phone. After a heated exchange of words, Sawant went ahead to make Koratkar’s purported voice viral. An offence was also registered against Koratkar at Kolhapur.
Clarifying the issue, Koratkar stated he had nothing to do with the scholar, who’s residing in faraway Kolhapur. “I have never met Sawant, and there is no question of enmity. It’s upsetting that I am being flooded with threat calls and my well-wishers are anxious about my well-being. I stay with my family and fear for their security,” said Koratkar, claiming he was dragged into the controversy without reason.
Senior Inspector Mukund Kawade of Beltarodi police station confirmed receiving an application from Koratkar regarding morphing of his voice and subsequent threat calls to him. “Cops are deployed round-the-clock at his residence,” said Kawade.
