CBSE offers two levels of Mathematics for Class 10 students — Mathematics Standard and Mathematics Basic. This allows students to choose the level based on their interest and future career plans.
The Mathematics Standard paper is meant for students who plan to pursue Mathematics in higher classes or aim for careers in Science, Commerce, or Engineering. It has a higher difficulty level with complex questions.
On the other hand, Mathematics Basic is for students who do not wish to continue Mathematics after Class 10. The questions are simpler and less tricky, making it easier for such students. However, both levels follow the same syllabus.
In 2025, around 24,12,072 students registered for the CBSE Class 10 board exams across 84 subjects. The exams were conducted at 7,842 centres in India and 26 countries abroad.
