CAT 2024 Result 2024 Case: A petition has been filed against the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 results over a discrepancy in the CAT answer key. According to Bar and Bench, an aspirant named Aditya Kumar Mallick has filed a challenge against the IIM CAT 2024 results, alleging discrepancies in the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) section. The Delhi High Court took up the matter on December 24 and 31, seeking responses from the Ministry of Education and the CAT 2024 convenor, IIM Calcutta. The case is scheduled for its next hearing on January 3.
Mallick has raised concern regarding the anomaly in a question of the comprehension section of the CAT 2024 exam which was conducted on November 24. The petition argued that the said question challenged the question in the CAT 2024 answer key however the IIM Calcutta released the final answer key citing in its notification that no changes were required in the provisional answer key.
Reportedly, the VARC section received 272 grievances and several aspirants and MBA faculty members provided detailed documentation to challenge the accuracy of the key. The MBA aspirant claimed that the CAT 2024 results, which were expected in the second week of January 2025, were announced abruptly on December 19, without any response from the exam authorities regarding the challenges raised against the answer key. The petitioner further demanded the scrapping of the CAT 2024 results and the appointment of a committee to find the correct answer.
Approximately 2.93 lakh candidates appeared for the CAT 2024 exam, which was held in three shifts: slot 1 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, slot 2 from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and slot 3 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The CAT 2024 question paper consisted of three sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Ability (QA).
