On the second day of Auto Expo 2025, BYD made quite a splash, showcasing the Yangwang U8 flagship SUV, announcing the commencement of bookings for the Sealion 7 EV, and bringing the Sealion 6 PHEV. While BYD has yet to confirm if it will launch the Sealion 6 PHEV in India, displaying it at the expo shows it is gauging response.
- BYD Sealion 6 has two variants abroad: Dynamic (FWD) and Premium (AWD)
- The Sealion 6 is marginally smaller overall than the Mahindra XEV 9e
- Its features include a panoramic sunroof and a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen
BYD Sealion 6 battery, range, powertrain
On sale in markets like Australia, the BYD Sealion 6 PHEV has a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an 18.3kWh battery. Together, the two power sources can help the plug-in hybrid SUV go up to 1,092km on a full charge and a single top-up of the 60-litre fuel tank.
Two variants are available overseas. The lower-spec Sealion 6 Dynamic has a 197hp front-axle motor and a 98hp, naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine, making a combined 218hp and 300Nm of torque. The Premium variant has a 163hp rear motor in addition to the front one and a 131hp, turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine; here, the combined output is 324hp and 550Nm.
BYD claims a 0-100kph time of 5.9 seconds and 8.5 seconds for the Premium and Dynamic variants, respectively, and an electric-only range of 81km and 92km.
BYD Sealion 6 design and size
The Mahindra XEV 9e-sized Sealion 6 is 4,775mm long, 1,890mm wide and 1,670mm tall, with a 2,765mm wheelbase.
