BYD e6, eMax 7, Innova Hycross, facelift launch details, new features, specs and range

BYD India is gearing up to launch the eMax 7 electric MPV by early October. It is essentially a heavily updated iteration of the e6 MPV, that has been around since 2021. The facelift not only brings cosmetic updates but also additional features, and wil take on the Innova Hycross MPV.

  1. eMax 7 to get three rows of seating
  2. Will come equipped with panoramic glass roof, ADAS suite

BYD eMax 7: more seats, features and tech

The BYD eMax 7 will come with three rows of seating, unlike the e6, which only came in a 5-seater configuration. The new BYD MPV will be offered with both six- and seven-seater layouts, sources tell us. While this seating layout will significantly reduce the cargo room offered by the e6, the seats themselves have been upgraded and now feature leatherette upholstery that looks more premium than the one seen on the e6.

eMax 7 will come with three-rows of seating.

Its most direct competition will be the Toyota Innova Hycross which is slightly larger but offers a similar seating layout. The Toyota MPV comes with a petrol-hybrid powertrain, whereas the eMax 7 will continue to be a pure electric MPV. The eMax 7 will have an edge over the Toyota in terms of some features, especially with BYD’s signature 12.8-inch rotating infotainment screen, among others.

The eMax 7 will also come equipped with a fixed panoramic glass roof, an ADAS suite, and a redesigned centre console with faux wood and aluminum inserts. It will also get more premium-looking switch gear and soft touch material on the dashboard.

A fixed panoramic glass roof will also be a new addition.

BYD eMax 7: battery and range

Internationally, the eMax 7 gets two battery pack options: a 55.4kWh unit with a claimed range of 420km and a 71.8kWh unit with 530km range. It produces 163hp with the smaller battery and 204hp with the larger battery; torque is rated at 310Nm for both variants. That’s quite a significant step up from the 95hp and 180Nm outputs of the existing car. BYD already offers the 71.8kWh battery on the e6 in India, so that’ll likely remain unchanged. Whether the smaller battery pack will be offered in India is not known yet.

BYD eMax 7: expected price

As for pricing, the eMax 7 will not see a major price bump over the e6 which was priced at Rs 29.15 lakh, ex-showroom. Sources tell us the eMax 7 will be priced at about Rs 30 lakh-Rs 33 lakh (ex-showroom) which puts it squarely against the Toyota Innova Hycross that tops out at Rs 30.98 lakh, for the top-spec ZX(O) hybrid variant.
