Let’s talk about Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 first. The film was announced a couple of years back and while there were talks of its release last year, finally the Independence Day weekend was chosen for it in 2023. It was a given that the film will take a decent start and even when the trailer arrives, expectations from the first day were of Rs. 10-15 crores. Even that would have been good actually since hardly a few movies have managed such numbers post pandemic.

However, something unbelievable happened in days to follow as advance booking started gathering pace. One has to credit media too to report about this on not just the daily basis but every few hours and suddenly, the Anil Sharma film began much bigger than ever before. Such is the situation now that a Rs. 30 crores first day is guaranteed for the film and if the showcasing goes on its side then there is also a possibility of Rs. 35 crores milestone been achieved. Considering the budget of this film backed by ZEE Studios, Gadar 2 with Ameesha Patel as the female lead and Utkarsh Sharma as the young led hero is already a hit.

As for OMG 2, it too has managed reasonable traction for it over a period of time. Unlike Gadar 2, this has been more of a slow burner affair. In fact, for a really long time one wondered if the film would indeed make it for release at this time. In fact, when Animal decided to shift then it was confirmed that the Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam film will indeed make it to August 11.

Then there was this whole censor board issue that cropped up and had the decision been taken even 2-3 days later, then the release would have been in jeopardy. Fortunately, at the last moment a compromise was reached and then the trailer came out which saw decent response coming its way. One still wondered that whether it would fetch any advance booking numbers due to the Gadar 2 wave. However, the film has managed to stand on its own and currently a start in the range of Rs. 7-9 crores is on the cards. Considering that OMG had started at Rs. 4.25 crores, if the sequel manages to gather double of that and that too on a clash with such a big film, then it would be a good enough result indeed.
