Bottega Veneta has invested in new production facilities to accelerate in the footwear segment. The Italian label owned by the Kering luxury group, renowned for its leather goods and especially its leather-braiding technique, the intrecciato, has announced the opening of a new footwear factory in Vigonza, in the Riviera del Brenta area, one of Italy’s main footwear manufacturing districts.

The district lies in Veneto, the region where the label has been established since it was founded. Bottega Veneta was set up in Vicenza in 1966 under the aegis of Renzo Zengiaro, and most of its production sites are still located in the region, including its main factory, in Montebello Vicentino.

The new facility’s opening is instrumental in the label’s reorganisation of its footwear division, bringing together in one venue Bottega Veneta’s artisanal know-how and all the various phases of the manufacturing process, from design to development, research, quality control, prototyping and final production.

The building extends over more than 5,450 square metres on three floors, and its distinctive façade is made of dark, perforated metal panels resembling the intrecciato pattern. It was built “by adopting innovative solutions to reduce its impact on the environment,” the label said in a press release. The factory employs more than 100 people and will manufacture the products designed by Creative Director Matthieu Blazy.

“Since its inception, Bottega Veneta has been deeply rooted in Veneto’s unique culture, community and traditions. The craftsmanship which defines our label can only come from this region, and we could not have chosen a better place than Vigonza, in the Riviera del Brenta’s footwear district, to build our new factory,” said Bartolomeo Rongone, managing director of Bottega Veneta.

“This opening is an important step in our internalisation process, enabling us to preserve and foster the skills of our artisans and to extend to footwear the creativity and top-notch craftsmanship that have characterised our handbags since 1966,” he added.
