PATNA: Language and dialect education has been at the forefront of education news ever since the NEP controversy over imposing the three-language policy surfaced. State governments are making all necessary efforts to protect the linguistic essence that makes their state’s education system culturally rich and distinct.
In recent developments, the Bihar government is promoting multiple dialects by strengthening its eight language academies and bringing them under a unified umbrella body for more effective governance. Officials have stated that sufficient funds will be allocated to ensure the proper functioning of these academies.
This move comes after the government observed that the academies were not effectively fulfilling their intended purpose. The eight existing language academies—Bihar Hindi Granth Academy, Maithili Academy, Magahi Academy, Bangla Academy, Sanskrit Academy, Bhojpuri Academy, Angika Academy, and the South Indian Languages Organisation—have notably been plagued by issues related to service conditions and appointments.
“Bihar is known for its rich linguistic heritage, and these academies were established to promote and protect it. However, they have been plagued with problems related to service conditions and appointments. Even after grants were released by the Centre, the funds were not utilized by the state government for their intended purpose,” Said BJP MLA Amrendra Pratap Singh, as reported by PTI.
The establishment of a parent organization as the governing body for all eight academies is expected to improve management and oversight. Officials explained that the government will ensure that all vacant positions in these academies are rationalized and that funds are appropriately allocated to provide the necessary impetus for their intended objectives.
