In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar shared her thoughts on the reception of her latest release, Mere Husband Ki Biwi. Speaking about the film, Bhumi expressed contentment with the audience’s response despite the film’s performance at the box office. “We did everything that we could, and whoever is going into the theatre is liking the film. As far as somebody finds something to connect with the film, I am okay with it,” she said.

The actress explained that the team aimed to create a “fun popcorn watcher,” and if it succeeded in entertaining viewers, she considers it a win. Bhumi also voiced her hope for the enduring power of word-of-mouth films, a phenomenon she credits for her own success. “I really hope that the time of word-of-mouth films doesn’t go away. Otherwise, it would be really sad because if word-of-mouth films didn’t exist, I wouldn’t have been here. Every film of mine has been a word-of-mouth film. So, I really hope that that era doesn’t end,” she added.

Another Two-Heroine Project for Bhumi

Mere Husband Ki Biwi marks yet another addition to Bhumi’s impressive lineup of multi-heroine films. Over the years, she has shared the screen with powerhouse actresses like Taapsee Pannu in Saand Ki Aankh and Yami Gautam in Bala, proving her ability to shine alongside equally strong female characters. When asked if she ever feels insecure about working in projects with multiple leading ladies, Bhumi’s response was refreshingly candid and confident.

“I am genuinely a very secure actor,” she affirmed. “There are so many times where women take a hit at the length of their part with a male actor—why is it that they can’t do it with a female actor? By the end of it, these are characters.” For Bhumi, the focus remains on the craft rather than the screen time. “I genuinely had the most fun working on films that have another strong female part, because as girls we just understand each other. We have shared experiences, and we are always rooting for each other,” she elaborated.

Citing her experience on Saand Ki Aankh with Taapsee Pannu as one of her most cherished works, Bhumi added, “I will never leave a film because I feel like another female part is better. I am a very secure actor. Aap mujhe chaar scene bhi doge, I’ll do my best.” Her philosophy is simple yet powerful: it’s all about finding a good story. “Now, in that story if there are 10 protagonists or just me, it doesn’t make a difference,” she said.

Celebrating Collaboration Over Competition

Bhumi’s admiration for her co-stars shines through when she talks about projects like Bala. “I genuinely feel that Yami killed it, and a very good reason why I did Bala was because the other girl’s part was written so well. I felt ki maza aayega,” she shared. For Bhumi, a well-made film elevates everyone involved. “At the end, if the film is good, only then is your work going to be appreciated,” she noted.
