Bayern Munich star striker Harry Kane missed the team training on Monday following a facial injury he sustained during his side’s clash against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga as the Bavarian giants gear up for a crucial UEFA Champions League Round of 16 play-off game against Celtic on Wednesday at home.
Bayern, who sit atop the Bundesliga table with an 8-point cushion over champions Leverkusen following their 0-0 draw on Saturday, head into the second leg of the playoff tie against the Scottish team with a one-goal lead following their 2-1 win at Celtic Park.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, however, remained hopeful that his main striker Kane could be part of the fixture and opined that the Englishman will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis ahead of the game.
“(It’s) definitely nothing bad. We’ve just had very little time to recover and sometimes you need an extra day,” Kompany said.
“We’ll see early tomorrow how he feels, but I assume it’s nothing too bad — we’ve just got very little time to refresh and recover. “We’ll see tomorrow,” the Belgian added.
Kompany acknowledged that the Scottish unit were a dangerous team to go up against, but called for everyone to remember how lethal Bayern can be themselves.
“Celtic always dangerous, but so are we,” he asserted.
Bayern hold the home advantage in the make-or-break tie as they welcome the Scotting heavyweights to the Allianz Arena and Kompany added that his men would seek the support of the crowd to egg their side on
“It’s a home game, we’ll look to make that play to our advantage,” the 38-year-old said.
