The Bajaj Chetak lineup recently expanded with a new entry-level variant called the Chetak 2901. With this addition, the Chetak can now be had in three variants – 2901, Urbane and Premium – and here we’ll list out the main features of each variant to help you choose which one is right for you.

Bajaj Chetak line-up: differences in battery, range, charging time

The base Chetak 2901 has the smallest battery capacity in this trio at 2.88kWh but its 123km claimed IDC range figure is higher than the mid-spec Urbane variant which has a 113km range figure. In fact even with its larger 3.2kWh battery, the Premium variant only has a 3km longer range than the 2901 at 126km. It appears that the 2901’s lower 63kph top speed has helped it eke out more range than the other two variants.

Unlike the Premium variant with its onboard charger, the Chetak 2901 and Urbane have an offboard charger. The base 2901 also has the longest charging time, taking 6 hours to recharge the battery from zero to full SOC. The Urbane takes 4hr50min for a full charge and the Premium takes the least amount of time, at 4hr30min for a full charge.

Bajaj Chetak line-up: differences in features, top speed

Both the Chetak 2901 and the Urbane variants use the colour LCD dash that was earlier on the Premium model. While they use the same display, the 2901 gets ‘Limited’ connectivity, in contrast to the Urbane that gets ‘Full’ connectivity. The difference here isn’t clear on the Chetak website and we have reached out to the company for clarity on the matter. We will update this story when we have more information on this subject.

The Premium variant is the only one in this trifecta to use a colour TFT display that gives you access to navigation prompts and notification alerts once you pair your smartphone to the dash via the Chetak app. The TecPac is an optional extra on all the variants and brings in Sports mode, reverse mode, hill-hold functionality and unlocks the extra connectivity options on the display for the respective variant. The TecPac is priced at Rs 3,000, Rs 8,000 and Rs 9,000 for the 2901, Urbane and Premium, respectively.

The 2901 has the lowest top speed at 63kph, even with the TecPac installed. Both the other variants have the same 63kph top speed without the TecPac and a higher 73kph top speed with it installed. What is common between all the variants is that they all have a metal body. Only the Urbane and Premium get the key fob and hence, keyless ignition, whereas the 2901 uses a physical key. The Premium is the only variant to get sequential indicators and it uses a front disc brake where the other two only use drum brakes at both ends.

When it comes to colour options, the 2901 has a leg up on the other two and can be had in six paint schemes. Some of these are very bright and vibrant colours and give the Chetak 2901 a very youthful look. The Urbane can be had in 4 colourways and the top Premium variant in just 3 colours.

Bajaj Chetak line-up: price difference

The base Chetak 2901 is priced at Rs 95,998, which puts it right in the crosshairs of the TVS iQube 2.2. The Chetak Urbane is priced at Rs 1.23 lakh, which puts it around the Ather Rizta Z 2.9 ballpark. Meanwhile the top-spec Chetak Premium is priced at Rs 1.47 lakh, which places it close to the TVS iQube ST 3.4. For similar money, you can alternatively also purchase a Yamaha Aerox 155
