Nagpur: Mayank Mishra, Arnav Gupta and Arpit Telrandhe rallied from a game down to enter the U-15 boys singles pre-quarterfinals of the Baidyanath Yonex Sunrise Nagpur District badminton championship which began at the Subhedar Hall, Ravi Nagar, on Friday.
A total of 30 events will be played in the five-day championship organized by the Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA).
While the seeded shuttlers moved up in various age categories, the U-15 boys singles third round saw some exciting matches. In the first outing, Mayank Mishra got the better of Tejas Jaiswal after losing the first game 12-15 before winning the next two outings 15-10, 15-12. Similarly, Arnav Gupta defeated Atharva Awachat in a thrilling clash 12-15, 18-16, 15-13. In the last clash, Arpit Telrandhe registered a come-from-behind 5-15, 15-11, 15-10 victory over Neel Saoji.
Earlier during the inaugural function, city’s talented shuttler Shourya Madavi was felicitated by NDBA president Kundatai Vijaykar for her heroics during the All India ranking badminton tournament. On the occasion, NDBA secretary Mangesh Kashikar, treasurer Anant Apte, Gurdeep Singh Arora, Bhavesh Deshmukh and others were present.
