It was a dismal five days extended weekend for Baby John as merely Rs. 28 crores* came in. This is really poor for the film which has been made at a very good budget and the production values show on screen as well. With big names involved in the making of the film, there was a lot riding on this action drama. However, the collections tell a very different study as audiences have totally rejected it in a very big way.
It’s a case study by itself to see how the hype continued to nosedive for the film after an impressive introduction teaser that was released early this year. The title announcement with the signature theme of Baby John was met with a very good response and it had seemed that Varun Dhawan would be welcomed with an open arm. The release was pushed as well by many months and that also seemed like a step in the right direction since last year something similar had happened with Animal and the results were there to be seen. However, once the promotional campaign resumed, the results were not as encouraging and the trailer, which was expected to be the best unit, ended up meeting with a lukewarm response that also reflected in the opening day numbers.
Nonetheless, all involved with the film can now be expected to move on in the New Year as there is no resurgence in sight after a flat weekend that just saw one double digit score and that too on the first day. At the box office, Baby John has proven to be a disaster and though the film is not as bad as the numbers may make it look alike, that has been the trend in 2023 and 2024 where an accepted film over performs and the one which is rejected ends up reaching its end sooner than expected.
