The 2025 season of Formula 1 will kick off with the Australian Grand Prix. The much-anticipated event will be held at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne. The practice races will be flagged off on March 14, while the final is scheduled for March 16. Speculations have been rife about Lewis Hamilton, who is set to begin a new chapter of his career with the most successful F1 team, Ferrari. The seven-time world champion represented Mercedes in the last 12 seasons and secured several driver titles. He will look to make a strong statement in his Ferrari debut with Charles Leclerc in Melbourne.
Red Bull legend Max Verstappen also hopes to make a positive start after his remarkable success in the last season. He will team up with Liam Lawson at the Australian Grand Prix. No local driver has been able to win the competition thus far. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri will be keen to end the 40-year-old wait this time, pairing up with Lando Norris.
Among the drivers on the current grid, Hamilton has won the Australian Grand Prix twice, in 2008 and 2015. Meanwhile, Leclerc won the final race in 2022, Verstappen finished atop the podium in 2023, and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz emerged victorious in the last season in Melbourne. Germany’s Michael Schumacher remains the most successful driver on this circuit with four titles.
The first ten editions of the Australian GP were held in Adelaide. Melbourne took over as the host in 1996. The circuit features 58 laps of 5.2 kilometres, with the race covering a total distance of 306 kilometres. Defending champion Sainz completed the race in 1:19.813 last season.
