Arjun Erigaisi at 4, D Gukesh 5th in latest FIDE Chess rankings | Chess News

NEW DELHI: Indian Grandmasters Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh retained their fourth and fifth spots in the latest chess rankings published on Wednesday.
Erigaisi recently achieved the impressive 2800 ELO rating, making him only the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, and the 16th player globally to reach the milestone. His rating remains at 2801.
Fifth ranked Gukesh, the 18-year-old World Champion boasts a rating of 2783. His recent victory against Ding Liren of China secured him the World Championship title.
Magnus Carlsen of Norway continued to dominate the rankings. He holds the top spot with a 2831 rating. Following closely behind were American players Fabiano Caruana (2803) and Hikaru Nakamura (2802).
Viswanathan Anand, another Indian chess legend, is ranked 10th. His ELO rating is currently 2750.
India’s strong presence in the top 50 is noteworthy.
Six other Indian players joined Erigaisi, Gukesh, and Anand. R Praggnanandhaa (13th), Aravindh Chithambaram (23rd), Vidit Gujarathi (24th), Pentala Harikrishna (36th), Nihal Sarin (41st), and Raunak Sadhwani (48th) all feature.
Koneru Humpy led the Indian women’s contingent. She recently won the Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship. Humpy holds the sixth spot with a 2523 rating.
Four Chinese players currently dominate the women’s rankings. Hou Yifan leads with a 2633 ELO rating, followed by Ju Wenjun (2561), Tan Zhongyi (2561), and Lei Tingjie (2552).
Divya Deshmukh is ranked 14th with a rating of 2490. Dronavalli Harika is close behind at 16th with a rating of 2489.
R Vaishali recently secured a bronze medal in the Women’s World Blitz Championship. She is currently ranked 19th with a 2476 rating.
In the junior men’s category, Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa held the top two positions.
