Madhura, who earlier represented India at World Cup Stage IV at Columbia in 2022, hopes to win a gold medal for the country at the upcoming World cup. “I am inspired by Aditi and Ojas, who both train at Drishti Academy and hope to win a gold medal for India in US and China,” she told TOI in a telephonic conversation from Pune on Thursday.
Madhura started practising archery at the age of nine. She is currently pursuing MA in history at Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil University, Satara. “My elder sister was a swimmer and my mother wanted me to also join some sport. I chose archery. After a brief stint at Shree Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal, I moved to Gurukul Academy run by Tushar Bhartiya in Saturna where Pawan Tambat and Ganesh Vishwakarma taught me the basics,” she said about her formative days.
Before joining Drishti Academy in 2024, Madhura had participated in Asia Cup at Taiwan in 2018 and World Youth Championship at Spain in 2019. She was selected for World Cup Stage IV in Columbia in 2022 where Indian women finished fourth. “I am excited and looking forward to winning a gold medal for the country,” she said.
Madhura expressed her gratitude to Maharashtra Archery Association president Prashant Deshpande and secretary Pramod Chandurkar for their consistent support.
