Akola: Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has selected Ajit Kumbhar, district collector of Akola, for the ‘Child-Friendly Award 2024‘ under the Best District Collector category from Amravati division. The announcement about the award was made by commission chairperson Adv Sushiben Shah.
The prestigious award will be presented to Kumbhar during an event to be held at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in Mumbai on March 3. The event will be attended by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, women and child development minister Aditi Tatkare, minister of state for home affairs Yogesh Kadam, and minister of state for women and child development Meghna Bordikar.
Several initiatives were taken in Akola district during the Child Rights Week including establishment of Women and Child Development Bhavan and One-Stop Centre, distribution of 1098 Child Helpline stickers, enhancement of facilities for children in childcare homes, awareness campaigns on child rights and voter awareness and comprehensive efforts to prevent child marriages.
