AFC Champions League 2: Mohun Bagan SG vs Tractor FC in Doubt With State of Mourning in Iran After Hezbollah Leader’s Death

Mohun Bagan’s AFC Champions League 2 match against Tractor FC is in doubt with a state of mourning in Irand following Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s death.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant are slated to face Tractor FC in their second game of the 2024-25 AFC Champions League 2 at the Yadegar-e Emam Stadium in Iran’s Tabriz on Wednesday, October 2.

In the aftermath of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s death, the match may face complications.

A prominent general in Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard died in the Israeli airstrike too as Iran announced a ‘state of mourning for five days’.

Many of Mohun Bagan SG’s foreign players have travel advisories against travelling to Iran and according to reports, multiple players have had their visas rejected, including those holding Indian passports.

Mohun Bagan have been in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and have also written to the AFC asking for clarity over the fixture. The team was to fly directly from Bengaluru after their Indian Super League fixture but have opted to return to Kolkata.

Amidst reports that may match may not go ahead in light of Mohun Bagan’s reluctance to travel to Iran, Tractor FC took to social media to write: “Mohun Bagan club of India makes up excuses…”

In their first match of the Group A, Mohun Bagan Super Giant had played out a goalless draw against Tajikistan’s FC Ravshan. Tractor FC lead the standings with a 3-0 win over Qatar’s Al-Wakrah SC.
