Most affordable cars with 6 airbags under Rs 10 lakh, cheapest 6 airbag cars

Due to a greater focus among car buyers on vehicle safety, many carmakers have introduced 6 airbags on entry-level models and added more standard safety features across their model lines. As of today, there are 25 cars – from hatchbacks and sedans to SUVs and MPVs – with variants that are priced under Rs 10 lakh and come with 6 airbags. 

25. Kia Syros

Starting price: Rs 9.5 lakh

Kia’s most recent entrant comes with 6 airbags across the range, but only its base HTK variant with the petrol engine and manual gearbox makes this list. The SUV shares its 120hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 116hp 1.5-litre diesel engines with its compact SUV sibling, the Sonet. The Kia Syros’ price starts at Rs 9.5 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.80 lakh for the top-spec variant with a Level 2 ADAS suite. The Syros recently secured a 5-star BNCAP safety rating.

24. Maruti Fronx

Starting price: Rs 8.96 lakh

The Maruti Fronx gets 6 airbags from the higher-spec Delta+(O) trim onwards, with lower variants making do with just 2 airbags. While the Delta+(O) and lower trims are powered by a 90hp 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes with manual and AMT options, the Delta+, Zeta and Alpha trims have a 100hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol mill with manual and torque converter auto options; the higher two trims fall outside the price bracket for this list.

23. Toyota Glanza

Starting price: Rs 8.82 lakh

Toyota’s version of the Baleno, the Glanza, shares nearly everything with its Maruti counterpart, including the 6 airbags that are available from the higher-spec G variant (priced from Rs 8.82 lakh) and the engine and gearbox options. The top-spec Toyota Glanza V AMT variant’s price is Rs 10 lakh, so it just about makes the list.

22. Maruti Suzuki Brezza

Starting price: Rs 8.69 lakh

Among the most recent Maruti Suzuki models to be updated with 6 airbags across its line-up is the Brezza. It rivals over 10 models in the fiercely competitive compact SUV segment and is now priced between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 14.14 lakh. The Brezza is on sale in 10 variants – of which just 3 fall under the Rs 10 lakh budget – and is powered by a 100hp 1.5-litre petrol engine that comes with manual and automatic transmission options. As is always the case with Maruti models, the Brezza has a CNG powertrain option as well, priced from Rs 9.64 lakh.

21. Citroen Aircross

Starting price: Rs 8.62 lakh

The Citroen Aircross is a unique 5+2 seat SUV (7 seats available only in select higher-spec variants), and like its brethren based on the same platform – the Basalt and C3 – the Aircross also comes with 6 airbags as standard. The SUV is priced between Rs 8.62 lakh and Rs 14.60 lakh, though only the two entry-level variants quality for this list, and it shares its 84hp 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and 110hp turbocharged petrol engines with its siblings, along with the same manual and automatic gearbox options. Citroen recently added the Aircross Dark Edition to its line-up.

20. Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Starting price: Rs 8.47 lakh

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno gets dual-front airbags as standard, with 6 airbags available from the Zeta variant onwards. Prices for the Baleno with six airbags range from Rs 8.47 lakh-9.92 lakh. The premium hatch gets a 1.2-litre engine making 90hp and 113Nm, an AMT auto option, and a CNG option, and rivals the Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20.

19. Citroen Basalt

Starting price: Rs 8.32 lakh

The Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV offers six airbags, ESP, hill-hold assist and a tyre pressure monitor across its line-up. It rivals the Tata Curvv and gets two petrol powertrains: an 82hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo mill that can be had with both manual and automatic transmissions. The Basalt range is priced from Rs 8.32 lakh onwards and goes up to Rs 14.10 lakh, though just the entry-level You and Plus variants find a place on this list.

18. Honda Amaze

Starting price: Rs 8.10 lakh

Along with having six airbags as standard, the most notable safety feature on the new Honda Amaze is a segment-first Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite on the top trim, though that one doesn’t fall under the Rs 10 lakh budget. The camera-based ADAS feature pack includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and blind-spot monitor, among others. The Honda Amaze comes with a 90hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine that has manual and CVT options, and the compact sedan’s price ranges from Rs 8.10 lakh-11.20 lakh.

17. Tata Nexon 

Starting price: Rs 8.00 lakh

Like many others in the compact SUV segment, the Tata Nexon gets six airbags as standard across the range. The XUV 3XO, Venue, Sonet and Brezza rival is priced between Rs 8.00 lakh and Rs 15.60 lakh and is available with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (120hp) and 1.5-litre diesel (115hp) engine options. The petrol engine gets a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, an AMT and a dual-clutch auto option, while the diesel has 6-speed manual and AMT options. A CNG version is also on sale.

16. Kia Sonet 

Starting price: Rs 8.00 lakh

Much like its cousin, the Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet also offers six airbags across all variants. Prices range between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 15.74 lakh. Other standard safety features on Kia’s first compact SUV include ESC, VSM, hill-start assist control, emergency stop signal, a TPMS, and more. The Sonet and Venue also share the same three engine options – 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel.

15. Mahindra XUV 3XO

Starting price: Rs 7.99 lakh

All variants of the Mahindra XUV 3XO get six airbags as standard, with prices starting from Rs 7.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.56 lakh. It is available with a 111hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine; a 131hp, 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol unit; and a 117hp, 1.5-litre diesel option. This compact SUV received a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating in November last year.

14. Hyundai Venue 

Starting price: Rs 7.94 lakh

Like the rest of Hyundai’s models, the Hyundai Venue gets six airbags as standard across all trims. The compact SUV gets three engine options: an 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol; a 120hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol; and a 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel. Prices for the Tata Nexon rival range between Rs 7.94 lakh and Rs 13.97 lakh; do note this includes the prices for the Venue N Line.

13. Skoda Kylaq

Starting price: Rs 7.89 lakh

The Kylaq is the most affordable Skoda in India, and comes equipped with six airbags as standard. It also gets ESC, traction control, three-point seat belts, adjustable head restraints for all seats and ISOFIX child seat mounts for the rear seats on all its trims. Notably, the Skoda Kylaq is built on the same MQB-A0-IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, which received 5-star ratings from Global NCAP, and shares the 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The Kylaq prices start at Rs 7.89 lakh and the top-spec automatic costs Rs 14.40 lakh.

12. Hyundai i20

Starting price: Rs 7.04 lakh

Hyundai’s premium hatchback, the i20, gets six airbags as standard. It’s offered with a sole 83hp, 115Nm, 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT (88hp with the CVT). Hyundai’s answer to the Toyota Glanza and Maruti Baleno is currently priced from Rs 7.04 lakh to 11.25 lakh. The sportier i20 N Line, which directly takes on the Tata Altroz Racer, is priced from Rs 10.00-12.56 lakh.

11. Maruti Dzire

Starting price: Rs 6.84 lakh

The new Dzire impressed with a segment-first 5-star safety rating in the GNCAP crash tests, thereby becoming the first Maruti model to secure the top score. For reference, the previous third-generation Dzire was awarded 2 stars by GNCAP. As with its hatchback counterpart, the Swift, the Dzire compact sedan also gets six airbags as standard. The frugal 82hp, 1.2-litre Z Series engine is shared with the Swift, as are the gearbox and CNG versions. The Maruti Dzire price range starts at Rs 6.84 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.19 lakh.

10. Maruti Suzuki Swift

Starting price: Rs 6.49 lakh

The new fourth-gen Maruti Swift gets six airbags as standard across its range. It gets a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z series engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or AMT, and boasts a class-leading efficiency of up to 25.75kpl. Also available in CNG form, the Swift is currently priced between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.65 lakh.

9. Hyundai Aura

Starting price: Rs 6.54 lakh

Like other models from the Korean carmaker, the Hyundai Aura also gets six airbags as standard. It draws power from the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as the Exter, i20 and Grand i10 Nios, and is available with a 5-speed MT and an optional 5-speed AMT. The Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor rival also gets a CNG option. Hyundai added a new mid-spec Aura Corporate trim earlier this year.

8. Citroen C3

Starting price: Rs 6.16 lakh

Citroen’s rival to the Maruti Ignis and Tata Punch was updated with six airbags across the range in August last year, and earlier this month, the high-riding hatchback received a Dark Edition and a new mid-spec Feel variant. Priced between Rs 6.23 lakh and Rs 10.19 lakh, the Citroen C3 comes with 82hp, 1.2-litre petrol and 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine options, with the latter getting a 6-speed torque convertor automatic option.

7. Nissan Magnite

Starting price: Rs 6.14 lakh

At Rs 6.14 lakh, the Nissan Magnite is among the most affordable SUVs on this list. It received a facelift late last year and boasts six airbags, three-point seat belts for all passengers, ISOFIX anchors, traction control, TPMS and hill-start assist as standard equipment. It continues to be powered by two 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engines in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. The Magnite CNG launch is expected soon.

6. Hyundai Exter

Starting price: Rs 6.00 lakh

The Hyundai Exter starts at Rs 6.00 lakh and is the most affordable SUV in India with six airbags, which is standard across all trims. The Korean brand rejigged the Exter’s line-up in February and added a new SX Tech higher-spec trim. Hyundai offers the SUV with an 83hp, 114Nm, 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. A factory-fitted CNG kit is also on offer with the Exter.

5. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios 

Starting price: Rs 5.98 lakh

With prices ranging between Rs 5.98 lakh and Rs 8.62 lakh, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is among the most affordable cars in India to be offered with six airbags as the Korean carmaker had made six airbags standard across all variants last October. The Nios is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 83hp and 114Nm that’s mated to 5-speed manual and AMT options. A CNG version, with a dual-cylinder tank, is also on offer. The Tata Tiago and Maruti Swift rival has discounts up to Rs 68,000 this month.

4. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Starting at Rs 5.79 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has been on a spree of updating its models with 6 airbags, and the most recent recipient is the Wagon R tall-boy hatch. Prices have increased by Rs 14,000, and the Maruti Wagon R range is now priced between Rs 5.79 lakh-7.62 lakh. The two petrol engine options – 69hp, 1.0-litre and 91hp, 1.2-litre – continue, as do the manual and AMT gearbox options. Like the rest of Maruti’s models, a CNG version is also on sale.

3. Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Starting price: Rs 5.64 lakh

India’s most fuel-efficient petrol car, the Maruti Celerio, is also the third most affordable model on sale with 6 airbags. Prices increased by a significant Rs 32,500 with the update; the Celerio’s price range now starts at Rs 5.64 lakh, and goes up to Rs 7.37 lakh. The Tata Tiago rival is powered by a 1.0-litre engine that makes 67hp and 89Nm on petrol and 57hp and 82.1Nm on CNG. The petrol version gets an AMT option.

2. Maruti Suzuki Eeco

Starting at Rs 5.69 lakh

The Maruti Eeco is the only MPV on this list, and was updated with 6 airbags at the start of April, which saw prices increase by Rs 25,500. The people-mover is also available in 6-seat form now, and its 80hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine is now E20 fuel compliant. The Eeco CNG gets the same engine in a 70hp state of tune, though is only available in 5-seat configuration.

1. Maruti Suzuki Alto K10

Starting at Rs 4.23 lakh

Despite prices increasing by up to Rs 16,000 with the 6 airbags update, the Maruti Alto K10 is by far the most affordable car in India with 6 airbags. It is powered by a 67hp, 1.0-litre petrol engine that’s E20-fuel-compatible, and comes with manual and AMT options. A factory-fitted CNG version is also available with the Renault Kwid rival.
