Super Cup: FC Goa eat Gokulam Kerala FC 3-0. (X)
FC Goa registered a resounding 3-0 triumph over Gokulam Kerala in their Kalinga Super Cup Opener at the Kalinga Stadium on Monday, riding on an Iker Guarrotxena hat-trick.
The Spaniard netted a brilliant hat-trick as the Gaurs began their Super Cup campaign in emphatic fashion. Guarrotxena opened the scoring with a 23rd-minute spot kick before doubling down on his tally ten minutes from the break. Goa took a two-goal lead into the break and looked in cruise control against the I-League side.
Gokulam came out with more grit in the period, dominating more possession and showing glimpses of a fight as they clipped the woodwork and looked threatening going forward, but their surge was halted midway through the second essay.
The 32-year-old from Bilbao completed his treble with his third of the night in the 71st minute as the Gaurs put the result beyond doubt. The Goan defence held strong and pulled through with a clean sheet to their name to move into the subsequent round of the cup tournament.
