BMW’s most affordable EV comes with a 66.4kWh battery that’s claimed to have a 531km range.
BMW has launched a two-wheel drive, long-wheelbase version of its iX1 electric SUV, officially called the iX1 eDrive 20L, at a very attractive ex-showroom price of Rs 49 lakh. We’ve now subjected the locally assembled iX1 LWB to our real-world range test, and the results are as follows.
- The iX1 LWB has a 204hp, front-mounted electric motor
- We tested it in ‘Eco’ drive mode with regen braking set to ‘Adaptive’
- Its real-world range is 430km in the city and 372km on the highway
BMW iX1 eDrive 20L real-world range
The BMW iX1 LWB packs a 204hp, 250Nm electric motor that sends power to the front wheels. It draws power from a 66.4kWh battery, like the erstwhile dual-motor, 4-wheel-drive iX1. BMW claims the iX1 LWB can run 531km on a full charge.
For our range tests, we drove the SUV in its most efficient ‘Eco’ drive mode and set the regenerative braking to ‘Adaptive’, which allows for both recuperation and coasting as and when the system feels the need. It uses a combination of sensors, navigation data and the driver’s inputs to determine the amount of coasting and regen needed.

The iX1 LWB returned an efficiency of 6.48km/kWh in our city cycle and 5.60km/kWh on the highway, translating to a range of 430km and 372km, respectively.
Autocar India’s range testing
Before our real-world range test, the battery of our test car is fully charged, and we maintain tyre pressures as recommended by the manufacturer. The car is driven in a fixed loop in the city and highway, and we maintain certain average speeds. In the end, we calculate the range based on the percentage of charge consumed. Throughout our test, the climate control is set to 22 degrees Celsius, the fan speed is set to auto, and we use other electricals, such as the audio system, lights and ventilated front seats (if equipped), when required, just as a regular user would. We take pride in our testing data, which isn’t just consistent but also gives users an accurate indication of what they can expect in the real world.
