Actor and host Maniesh Paul recently opened up about a personal milestone in his career – being directed by veteran filmmaker David Dhawan in an upcoming comedy also starring Varun Dhawan. For Maniesh, this collaboration is more than just another film project; it’s a full-circle moment rooted in nostalgia and early admiration for Bollywood’s masala entertainers.
Maniesh Paul opens up about his ‘full circle’ moment with David Dhawan: ‘From buying tickets in black to being directed by him’
During a recent podcast appearance, Maniesh shared an anecdote from his teenage years when he managed to watch Judwaa — one of David Dhawan’s most popular films — by purchasing tickets in black at Delhi’s iconic Sapna Theatre. “It was a very amazing feeling when David sir said me ‘Action’. I was in 10th standard when Judwaa released and I had purchased the ticket for the film in black at Sapna Theatre in Delhi. It was an experience watching David sir’s directorial on the big screen,” he recalled.
The memory stayed with him over the years and little did he know that one day, he would be working under the same director whose film had left a strong impression on him as a young moviegoer. “All of a sudden one day, David sir called me for a role and said, ‘Maniesh, I am doing a film and I want to work with you in the film,’” he shared.
The upcoming film brings Maniesh into a space he’s long been associated with — comedy. Known for his spontaneous humour and strong screen presence, Maniesh has carved out a niche for himself through his work in television and cinema. Although he didn’t divulge details, we hear that his new role not only taps into his strengths but also aligns with his long-standing admiration for commercial entertainers. Reflecting on how things have come together, Maniesh added, “I always believe in saying thank you to the universe and I want people should say thank you to whatever is happening.”
From watching films as a student to now being a part of them, Maniesh Paul’s journey reflects a steady rise shaped by consistency and opportunity. While further details about the film are still under wraps, the actor’s collaboration with David Dhawan marks a noteworthy chapter in his career — one that bridges the gap between admiration and achievement.
