Barcelona went down to their first defeat of the calendar year 2025 as Borussia Dortmund posted a 3-1 win at the Signal Iduna Park in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal. Despite the loss, Barcelona managed to move into the semifinal 5-3 on aggregate and remain in the hunt for a historic quadruple.

Barca head coach Hansi Flick opined that such a dip as the one his side experienced in Germany on Wednesday was only normal in a packed season.

“There was not a great atmosphere in the dressing room… it was only when I told them, ‘Lads, we’re in the semi-finals,’ that it lifted a bit,” the German said.

“It will be important to analyse this game, but we’ve accumulated a lot of matches, and it could be normal to have a dip,” he added.

Flick went on to add that he will get into the nitty-gritty of the game, but lauded his side for demonstrating consistent improvement throughout the campaign.

“Today we didn’t show what we want, we will analyse that — but we have improved this season,” said the coach.

“We are still in three competitions. We are in the Champions League semi-finals,” the 60-year-old said.

“This is a huge success and something we should be very happy about,” the Barca gaffer added.

Barcelona defender Jules Kounde also echoed his boss’s comments and admitted to switching off on the day.

“We were not up to it today, we made mistakes, switched off,” the Frenchman said.

“Flick told us we had to improve at half-time,” Kounde added.

Barcelona also lead the La Liga table with 70 points from 31 assignments this season and are ahead of chasing Real Madrid by 4 points.
