New gen Volkswagen Tiguan India price starts at Rs 49 lakh

Since the Tiguan R-Line is a newer-generation model, it expectedly looks quite different from the outgoing Tiguan. Up front, the Tiguan R-Line has sleeker headlights with a connected LED strip, and lower down, there’s a massive mesh-patterned air dam with a silver lip. Given the sporty proclivities of Volkswagen’s R-Line models, chrome is used to a minimum on the Tiguan’s fascia.

19-inch wheels as standard

Over to the side, the Tiguan R-Line comes with 19-inch alloy wheels and uses a rather sparse body cladding. The rear, meanwhile, features a large light bar with a smoked effect and a roof spoiler up above. The SUV has six colour options on offer: Cipressino Green Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect, Oyster Silver Metallic and Persimmon Red Metallic.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line interior and features

The Tiguan R-Line’s cabin has an all-black colour scheme with blue stitching on the dashboard and sports seats. Atop the centre console, there’s a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that incorporates the climate control functions and offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Meanwhile, a three-spoke steering wheel with ‘R’ badging sits right in front of the driver, and further ahead is a 10.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster.

Tiguan R-Line feature list

Other nifty goodies offered in the Tiguan R-Line include a panoramic sunroof, 30-colour ambient lighting, tri-zone climate control, brushed stainless steel pedals, massaging front seats, wireless charging for up to two phones, and Level 2 ADAS. The India-spec Tiguan R-Line is also equipped with Volkswagen’s Park Assist Plus tech, which can search for suitable parking spaces and execute parking manoeuvers without any intervention from the driver.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line powertrain and performance

Volkswagen has endowed the Tiguan R-Line with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing a healthy 204hp and 320Nm of torque. Routing this grunt to all four wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Tiguan R Line can dispatch the 0-100kph run in a claimed 7.1 seconds and carry on to a top speed of 229kph.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line price and rivals

At its Rs 49 lakh price point, the Tiguan R-Line is roughly Rs 11 lakh more expensive than the previous model, which was brought in via the CKD (completely knocked down) route. As far as competitors go, the Tiguan R-Line falls right in the ballpark of entry-level luxury SUVs like the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. All-electric SUVs like the BMW iX1 LWB and BYD Sealion 7 also serve as alternatives in the Tiguan R-Line’s price range.
