Premier League side Chelsea take on second-placed Arsenal at the Emirates in a mouth-watering London derby on Sunday in the English top-flight with a lot at stake for both clubs. The Blues, who are chasing a top-four finish to guarantee them a place in next year’s UEFA Champions League, will look to capitalise on their momentum to test Mikel Arteta’s men.
The last time Chelsea went to visit the Emirates, they were handed a clinic by the Gunners who ran out 5-0 winners in an absolute rout. Chelsea look to build on their four-game winning run across all competition against Arsenal as defender Marc Cucurella emphasised on the importance of the game between the Londoners.
“I think we need to stick to our plan. We have the talent, we are in a good moment with confidence and for us and the fans it’s a special game,” the Spaniard said.
“We will try to do everything to try and win these three points and have another win in the bag,” Cucurella added.
Cucurella opined that Chelsea’s recent run of form has breathed a sense of confidence about them, which would help as they take Arteta and Co. on the road, and he voiced that a win against a top-quality opposition would only further bolster their resolve.
“The most important thing is to try and take each game as the most important game because it doesn’t matter which team or game you’re playing, you are playing for three points,” the 26-year-old said.
“It’s about staying focused and going into the next game and seeing where we finish this season,” he added.
Cucurella, who has found the back of the net five times across competitions this season, expressed that it was a special feeling to get on the scoresheet, but added that helping the team win was of prioriy.
‘I always try to give the best for my team and put everything on the pitch to try to win,’ he said.
‘It’s very special to score. One of the things I’ve always thought that I could improve on is the last third – getting more goals and more assists. And this season, I’ve had this opportunity, scoring a few goals,” he signed off.
