Honda Cars India president and CEO change Takashi Nakajima, replaces Takuya Tsumura


Honda Cars India has announced the appointment of Takashi Nakajima as its new president and CEO, effective April 1, 2025. Nakajima will succeed Takuya Tsumura, who is returning to Honda’s head office in Japan after completing his three-year tenure in India.

Nakajima has over 30 years of experience with Honda

Nakajima brings over 30 years of experience with parent company Honda Motor Co., having held various leadership positions across international markets. These include Japan, China, Spain, and the Czech Republic. His most recent appointment was as President of Honda Motor Russia, since 2021.

During the outgoing president and CEO, Tsumura’s leadership, Honda introduced India’s first mainstream hybrid model, the City e:HEV, the Elevate SUV, and the third-gen Amaze. He also laid groundwork for future launches, including Honda’s first EV, codenamed ACE, for the Indian market.

The Japanese brand also expanded its export business during his tenure, and began exports of the made-in-India Elevate to Japan. Honda also achieved a 16 percent year-on-year revenue increase to a six-year high of Rs 16,461 crore, with profit before tax rising 25 percent to Rs 1,029 crore under Tsumura’s leadership. Total sales volumes grew 8.8 percent to a five-year high of 124,244 units, while export volume surged 65.4 percent to 37,660 units.

In India, Honda currently retails the Amaze compact sedan, City mid-size sedan, and Elevate mid-size SUV. During the April-January period of this financial year, the Japanese automaker sold 53,081 units, and has a market share of 1.5 percent, while exporting 50,866 units.
