Sharan Kamble, an IPS officer in the Rajasthan cadre, hails from Solapur, Maharashtra. His parents, who were labourers and vegetable vendors, struggled to support their family. Despite their challenges, they never hesitated to invest in their son’s education.
Academic Journey And Achievements
Born on September 30, 1993, in Tadwale village, Barsi tehsil of Solapur district, Sharan Kamble attended a government school in his village until the 10th grade. For his 11th and 12th grades, he travelled 12 km to a neighbouring village. He then went on to pursue a BTech from Walchand College of Engineering in Sangli and later a postgraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
Rejecting High-Paying Job For UPSC Aspirations
After completing his postgraduate studies at IISc, Sharan Kamble received an impressive job offer with an annual salary of Rs 20 lakh. However, driven by his desire to serve the nation, he turned down the offer to pursue his dream of joining the civil services, a dream his father, Gopinath, also cherished. Kamble moved to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exams.
Scholarship Support During UPSC Preparation
While preparing for UPSC, Sharan Kamble faced financial difficulties. Determined to continue his studies, he applied for and earned a scholarship through the Maharashtra Government’s scheme, which provided him with Rs 12,000 per month for eight months, helping him sustain his preparation.
Sharan Kamble’s UPSC Success
Kamble’s dedication paid off when he achieved an impressive All India 8th rank in the UPSC CAPF 2019 exam. He went on to clear the UPSC Civil Services exam in 2020 with an All India rank of 542, earning a position in the IPS.
In 2021, he secured the 127th rank, which would have granted him the IFS cadre, but he chose to remain in the IPS, following his original dream.
