A class 8 student of a private school in Hyderabad died by suicide after jumping from the school building on Saturday, reported PTI. The 14-year-old boy died by suicide after allegedly being “reprimanded” and “slapped’ by his physical education teacher at school. The incident occurred around 9:30 am when the teacher reportedly rebuked the student in front of his classmates for allegedly adjusting a CCTV camera.

Police told the news agency that the boy, feeling humiliated, excused himself to use the washroom but instead went to the fourth floor of the building and jumped. He was rushed to the hospital but declared dead.

Some students claimed the teacher had “slapped” the boy. A note, allegedly written by the deceased and apologising to his mother, was found in his book. Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide and are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, in the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) student suicide case, the Odisha government summoned the founder Achyuta Samanta to appear before it last week. Samanta is expected to provide evidence and documentation related to the incident.

A three-member committee has been tasked with investigating the death of a student and alleged mistreatment of Nepalese students. Led by Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Satyabrata Sahu, the committee includes secretaries from the Higher Education and Women and Child Development departments. The committee visited the KIIT campus on Wednesday to gather information and met with some of the affected Nepalese students.
