What is UGC NET?
The UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is held twice a year, in June and December, to determine eligibility for academic positions in Indian universities and colleges.
The exam is conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode and consists of two papers:
Paper 1: Common for all candidates, assessing teaching and research aptitude.
Paper 2: Subject-specific, offering 83 subjects for selection.
Successfully clearing the UGC NET exam opens up career opportunities as Assistant Professors, Lecturers, or Junior Research Fellows (JRF).
To pass the UGC NET, candidates from the general category need to score at least 40%, while candidates from OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, and transgender categories require 35%. The exam determines eligibility for Assistant Professor roles, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and PhD admissions.
